My favorite place in the Riviera Maya is a little spot on the beach in Playa Del Carmen. This spot is near Fusion Nightclub & Bar. Often, the Blue Parrot gets all the attention in Playa when it comes to hot places to spend an evening (and people aren’t wrong, BP is a terrific place). However, if you want a place that still has a private element and is quite romantic – head to Fusion.
Sit at a lantern-lit table for cocktails, so close to the waves that your feet almost touch the water. Watch the sun set over the aquamarine water and marvel in nature’s majesty. As it gets darker, the romance deepens. Fusion’s beach seating has a particularly heady ambiance. When you’ve polished off a few drinks – move to a completely deserted spot just down the beach but within the confines of the music’s beat. You will still have a perfect view of the fire show and get the feeling of the celebration; yet you’ll feel like you have the show all to yourself. And that is what comes next – a tradition in Latin countries – a performance that can only be truly appreciated in person.
There are fire shows at many locations throughout Riviera Maya, but it was the one at Fusion I felt most touched by. Witnessing it from my little deserted spot on the beach, the emotion was heightened. The spinning fire didn’t warm my face but the passion of the art touched me deeply. I plan to go back to that same spot on the beach, the next time I am in Playa Del Carmen for a sunset and a fire show!
