NYC Recommendation: Mad. Sq. Eats

While I was running around the city last week, I made time to stop at Madison Square Park for one of my favorite annual events: Mad. Sq. Eats. It’s a pop up outdoor market that takes place in the small square that’s directly next to the park on the west side.

I wait for this like a dehydrated wanderer in the desert searching for an oasis because I fell in love with the food truck park idea that Portland, Oregon perfected many years ago and this is the only thing we have that even comes close to that. That I know of!

It can be a bit overwhelming with all the different food and drink options. But don’t worry, I’ve done the work for you and I can tell you your two best options are: Mayhem & Stout plus NuNu Chocolates. Stop by Mayhem & Stout for their Chicken Banh Mi which happens to be the best Banh Mi I’ve ever had in the USA.

And then move next door to NuNu so you can try a pint of beer and enjoy dessert in the form of one of their amazing chocolate bars. I opted for the Smuttynose Pumpkin Ale this time and it paired nicely with the sandwich. Of course for chocolates, I always end up choosing Salted Caramel and NuNu doesn’t disappoint here.

TAKE NOTE
BONUS: Great conversation with local photographer Gary Fitzpatrick who happened to be manning the bar. Just make sure you stop by before it all ends October 1! Learn more at Urban Space.
