Where to Stay: Rooms Hotel Kazbegi in Georgia

During my January 2022 visit to the country of Georgia, we stayed in many solid properties that I would absolutely return to. However, none were as memorable as Rooms Hotel Kazbegi. I would travel to the country of Georgia JUST to stay and dine there again.

An Introduction

This is their site. The hotel is part of a small “chain” within Georgia. Each location is known as Rooms Hotel and that’s followed by the city or place it’s in. So Rooms Hotel Tbilisi, Rooms Hotel Kokhta, etc etc.

Where is Rooms Hotel Kazbegi in Georgia and how do you get there

Rooms Hotel Kazbegi is located in the mountainous region of Kazbegi and looks directly at Gergeti Trinity Church across the valley. It is on a slope above the town of Stepantsminda. That lends the property stunning views up and down the valley as well as across to the church.Photo of the outside balcony at Rooms Hotel Kazbegi by photographer Kirsten Alana.

I arrived via a small passenger van as part of a larger tour of Georgia. The roads in winter, when I visited, necessitated a local driver with experience. Ours was phenomenal.

Cost of Rooms Hotel Kazbegi

When I visited in January 2022, rooms were around $100 USD/night. As of publishing this post in 2023, rooms (for a January stay) look to be ranging from $165 USD/night to $340 USD/night for their Terrace Suite with Mountain View.

What does it look and feel like?

My room was not large but it was well-appointed with a full bathroom and a nice balcony. And what a view! It had one queen-size bed. There was also a fridge. In the absence of carpet, the wood floor was nice in winter as it wasn’t too cold on my feet. The bed was very comfortable. And I loved the side tables made to look like vintage steamer trunks.

There was a TV but I don’t watch television when I travel so I can’t speak to what it was like. I enjoyed the vintage posters on the wall. The curtains blocked the outside light very well. There were hooks by the door for coats and one stand for a small suitcase but there was not a closet in my room.

Common Spaces of Rooms Hotel Kazbegi

Books!! And more books. I was absolutely gobsmacked at how fun it was to browse their extensive collection of books. While almost all were in Georgian, it was still fun to browse and look at their beautiful language in book form. For bibliophiles like me, this is an excellently appointed hotel. I also enjoyed the collection of vintage film posters. Since I live in Los Angeles, this felt like a little bit of home [with a twist] away from home.Photo of the library bar in Rooms Hotel Kazbegi by photographer Kirsten Alana.

Plentiful, and very comfortable, seating made for a property in which I spent almost no time in my room. I was almost always lounging in the common spaces.

The food and drinks at Rooms Hotel Kazbegi

Some of the best meals I had in my whole two weeks in Georgia were at this hotel. I cannot more highly recommend their F&B program. From breakfast to dinner, you will not go hungry here. Make sure to try as many different dishes as you can.

Don’t skip the bar areas with plentiful seating, fireplaces, and a billiards area. The cocktails are extraordinary here. Again, some of the best I had in all of Georgia if not the best.

The pool and spa facilities at Rooms Hotel Kazbegi

From the pictures alone, I hope you can tell how wonderful the pool is? Heated! And with more views of the mountains! What’s not to love?! There was also a sauna and hot tub area that I only have video of. But it, too, had mountain views. The heated pool in Rooms Hotel Kazbegi by photographer Kirsten Alana.

Final thoughts

I absolutely loved my stay!! I think most readers would too. It’s a gem that I was not surprised to find is part of the Design Hotels™ collection.

The service was great. Fluent English was spoken by most staff members. And there was a safety factor that I hadn’t expected to find. A language to the design and feel of the property that made my Western-developed sensibilities feel at home while taking me just far enough outside my comfort zone to also be new and exciting.

This is a brand that I think could do just as well in the mountains of Montana or in the Alps with some tweaks.

I would absolutely return!
